Linville Gorge Elopement // Elsa + Charlie

Foggy elopement wedding in linville gorge // Boone, north carolina

Found just outside of Boone, NC the rocky cliffs of the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area are by far one of my favorite places on earth! Not only for photographing elopements and engagements, but also for spending personal time soaking in the beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This area is home to a ton of local climbing spots and swimming holes, primitive campsites, and lots of beautiful hiking trails so my team and I are always making sure to do our part when it come to Leave No Trace Principles and respecting other fellow lovers of this area. For that reason I choose to not disclose exact locations in efforts to respect and preserve the land.

Over the years I have seen these beautiful views in an array of different colors. One season my husband and I camped in the area at just the right time to watch the greens of summer fade into the burnt oranges, deep reds, and warm yellows of fall. I have watched the sun rise and set over these mountains many times and it NEVER gets old. While the views most certainly are breathtaking, I can’t help but love the days when the fog rolls into the gorge. If you’re lucky sometimes you still get the view while looking down on the cloud cover settling into the valley for the night.

For Elsa + Charlie’s wedding day they found themselves exchanging vows engulfed in the beautiful misty fog. Elsa’s sweet and quiet demeanor was beautiful as she expressed her love for Charlie standing on the cliffs. And Charlie’s humor and big grin brought out the most joyful giggles and smiles from Elsa. We had so much fun exploring the rocks in the clouds that day while they were dressed to the nines.

Eloping in the Linville Gorge is a great option for any couple looking to have an intimate and slightly adventurous experience. The main access. point is a great central location for many different trails on the top of the gorge. Open season for this area is April 1-December 31 but is subject to change due to inclement weather. If you are hoping to elope in this area I do recommend avoiding weekends because they can be busy during the warmer months. If you haven’t been to the area before be prepared for some curvy and somewhat bumpy service roads to gain access to this beautiful landscape tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains. For more information on this area you can check out the National Forest Service.

One of the MOST IMPORTANT things to keep in mind is truly respecting the land and others around you. Over the years some other beautiful parts of Western North Carolina have suffered from over use and people not making the effort to care for this beautiful place we call home. So, let’s all promise to do our part!
